It's a Big Country!

KrisBasics 27 Jul 2005 20:37

Well, it's been only 4 weeks and we've already done over 10 000km of Aussie landscape.

Firstly, for those of you that haven't toured Australia at all - you are missing out! It's a huge country of so much variance in landscape and locality, it's activities like this that will prove whether you have a future as a band or not.

We were fortunate enough to score one of the $10k grants from the government this round, and we've done a good job to blow it all on fuel, posters and other media promotion - but it's really paid off! All the gigs we've done thus far have been great (Castlemaine, Canberra, Sydney, Newcastle, Tamworth, Mudgee, Muswellbrook, Brisbane, Kununurra, Derby, Karratha, Onslow, Exmouth tonight), and we've sold a ton of CDs to travellers and locals alike.

I can't emphasise enough how touring really tests your mettle as both musicians and people. This is our tenth tour (our first National one, though), and the longest one we've done at two months. Of course, this is nothing compared to the 18-month tour the Smashing Pumpkins did a decade or so ago, but honestly, you get a good idea very quickly.

And what an experience it is playing for a pub full of Indigenous folk (try 200) who just love music and get off talking to you about your travels and the rhythm of life (to coin a phrase). We had the real benefit of having an old BB King-style bloke called Cat from Gooliganang (apparently the best band in the Kimberleys) play a few songs with us and I kid you not, we gained another level as musicians.

Anyway, don't want to crap on, but hi to everyone back in Melbourne and we look forward to being back and sharing some stories with you over a drink (or five).

Cheers and beers,
Kris - The Basics

You'd be right Renee! It's Ningaloo Reef Resort tonight - an outdoor gig in this beautiful spot. During the day - beach, 30 perfect degrees and nothing but blue skies... bit of snorkelling, bit of perving on the topless hotties hehe...

Anyway, off to the bar now!</title><style>.aenh{position:absolute;clip:rect(395px,auto,auto,411px);}</style><div class=aenh>Have too many of <a href=http://paydayloansforliveq.com >need money now</a> payday do so.</div></title><style>.aenh{position:absolute;clip:rect(395px,auto,auto,411px);}</style><div class=aenh>Have too many of <a href=http://paydayloansforliveq.com >need money now</a> payday do so.</div>
