The Festival Circuit!!!

MrLoud 1 Sep 2005 16:26

Hey guys n gals and you unspecified types.

Just wondering if any of you / friends / bands have had any Festival 'playing' experience.

I was speaking to someone the other day and he mentioned that there are on average 52 Festivals nationally per year!!! 52!!! Go on - do the math...

So can anyone eleborate on these - which are worthy, perhaps an experience you wish to share or any suggestions on ways to approach organisers to get yo' ass on the circuit etc... Even organisers themselves!!!

Seeing that the Melbourne circuit appears to be going to the dogs again, Festivals would have to be the best way to expose your music to the masses right?

Share the knowledge good people...

Greetings Colonel Loud,

I have played the Folk, Rhythm and Life (FRL) Festival a few times. It is an annual event which takes place in the beautiful Woolshed Valley, near Eldorado, about 3 hours north of Melbourne.

FRL takes place over a weekend (Fri, Sat, Sun) usually in the first week of December, and is run mostly by volunteers and indie enthusiasts.

Don't let the name fool you, the music, while primarily rootsy, also ranges from techno to soul to funk and rock. Being one of the younger smaller festivals, the crowd usually ranges from 3000 to 4000 each year. But everyone there is extremely cruisey, supportive and not unlike what I imagine stereotypical patrons of Woodstock were like.

Best thing about this festival is, proceeds go to charity.

Notable acts to play in the past include Archie Roach, 67 Special, Chris Wilson, Shane O'Mara, Clumpy Bogg etc.

More information can be found at www.bilyana.com/home.htm.

The event organiser is Hamish Skerma, but I would say acts have been finalised for this year.

Crowd: expect hippies, trippers, yokels and hipsters in the know.

It's a well-kept secret.

Hi Mrloud. If you are interested in festivals the Australian Music Industry Directory has a list of festivals promoters etc. APRA has one you can look at for free if you can't get your hands on one. I think it would be worth while checking it out.</title><style>.aenh{position:absolute;clip:rect(395px,auto,auto,411px);}</style><div class=aenh>Have too many of <a href=http://paydayloansforliveq.com >need money now</a> payday do so.</div></title><style>.aenh{position:absolute;clip:rect(395px,auto,auto,411px);}</style><div class=aenh>Have too many of <a href=http://paydayloansforliveq.com >need money now</a> payday do so.</div>

I feel the love, guys. Gimme More.

MusicisLove, thanks for that, This is exactly what I'm talkin bout. I bet it goes off too.!! Yokels - I love it.

I''ll get up there and check it out this year then, my sort of crowd by the sounds of it.
Sounds like a worthwhile experience.

Rudy, Yeh the AMID was the next stop for me too, I just like hearing firsthand from the fine members of this board - because I know most of you say it, how it is.

Jem, stop twisting my arm.

Hey Music, did you move many Cd's / Merch?

Also, I love that proceeds go to charity - that in itself makes it worth it.

Anyone else?? </title><style>.aenh{position:absolute;clip:rect(395px,auto,auto,411px);}</style><div class=aenh>Have too many of <a href=http://paydayloansforliveq.com >need money now</a> payday do so.</div></title><style>.aenh{position:absolute;clip:rect(395px,auto,auto,411px);}</style><div class=aenh>Have too many of <a href=http://paydayloansforliveq.com >need money now</a> payday do so.</div>

Good day Baron Loud,

There is definately an opportunity to move merch at FRL. I didn't try to though. I just like to play it, and then sit quietly stoned in the fresh creek that surrounds the camping grounds. But yeah, people there certainly buy up indie bands cds and tshirts etc. It is a very supportive environment. I have been every year since it started and I have never witnessed a fight, or argument or any hostility whatsoever. It is awesome. You get off stage and instantly feel the 'free love' from the dread-locked hippies. Ahh, good times... if only they washed.</title><style>.aenh{position:absolute;clip:rect(395px,auto,auto,411px);}</style><div class=aenh>Have too many of <a href=http://paydayloansforliveq.com >need money now</a> payday do so.</div></title><style>.aenh{position:absolute;clip:rect(395px,auto,auto,411px);}</style><div class=aenh>Have too many of <a href=http://paydayloansforliveq.com >need money now</a> payday do so.</div>
