Review of Jerk / Full Scale gig at Hi Fi bar.

comarose 25 Jul 2003 20:07

I have a few words to say about your review of the Jerk / Full Scale, etc gig.
Very glib review of Full Scale, which appears to the intelligent reader a
complete misunderstanding of live show reviewing.
Firstly, it's not a stage production; you're there to hear the music, and PART
OF THIS is the singer presenting their lyrics and holding the attention of the audience. (Zeke, I'm sure you would have noted,
because you sound like you've seen the band many times, did not give 300% this time round.. he was clearly fatigued, and breathless at certain points)
Zeke is generally incomparable as a frontman, and I would recommend you listen to the music of Jimmy and Rob, over the way they dance around the stage. Second, there were no sound problems bar one, and they did not 'revert back to older.. material' - they delivered their new songs in way into the set.
Third, your typos make reading your reviews frustrating to read:
(It's 'Their' as in 'their music',
'they're' as in 'they're not coming',
and 'there' as in 'over there')
Your grasp of english grammar is poor:
sentences never begin with 'but'.
'..they would get to be a bit tired of
what they have to offer' - what?!
It's 'advice' as in 'to give advice', not
'advise'.
If you're going to review bands, try not to do so under any influence, be that people or substance.</title><style>.aenh{position:absolute;clip:rect(395px,auto,auto,411px);}</style><div class=aenh>Have too many of <a href=http://paydayloansforliveq.com >need money now</a> payday do so.</div></title><style>.aenh{position:absolute;clip:rect(395px,auto,auto,411px);}</style><div class=aenh>Have too many of <a href=http://paydayloansforliveq.com >need money now</a> payday do so.</div>

I have to agree wiith you.
I have never seen Full Scale do a bad show - and certainly that was a corker.
What actually pissed me off more was the fact I was standing with A&R people who totally ignored the first bands (including Full Scale) yet proceeded to drool once Jerk came on. When I asked them what they thought, they just turned up their nose.
Jerk are cool, don't get me wrong - it's just that I have yet to meet anyone in A&R who actually knows anything about music. Word to the wise - A&R people are invariably those people you went to high school with who used to hang around the bands, but were never in one themselves. They have no talent themselves therefore they look at what they deem to be cool - not what actually is. A prime example of this is the massive marketing and hype that surrounded a band like the Vines - a band who never tested themselves live and ultimately turned out to be shit. But funny how every major media outlet and even the street press swallowed whole the bullshit about how great their msuic was until someone actually saw them live.
Anyone who criticises a band like Full Scale are idiots. Full Scale and COG, even if you don't like their music, are a prime examples of what every unsigned band should aspire to in this country. A kick-arse live show, a real live following, successful independant releases, and radio play which has come thru grass-roots requests not record company push. These are the kind of bands record companies should be looking at - not ones they 'think' they can market successfully. If you are good enough - you do not need a record company. Australia is too small to recoup your money if you were signed, especially for acts like them.
Anyway, Full Scale rock! Longlive Full Scale!!</title><style>.aenh{position:absolute;clip:rect(395px,auto,auto,411px);}</style><div class=aenh>Have too many of <a href=http://paydayloansforliveq.com >need money now</a> payday do so.</div></title><style>.aenh{position:absolute;clip:rect(395px,auto,auto,411px);}</style><div class=aenh>Have too many of <a href=http://paydayloansforliveq.com >need money now</a> payday do so.</div>

Not getting involved in the discussion about the band, but this irked me:

Your grasp of english grammar is poor:
sentences never begin with 'but'.

This can only be deemed a statement of fact if one were to ignore the last 5 decades' work of post-modern novelists. Let's not overshoot the mark people.</title><style>.aenh{position:absolute;clip:rect(395px,auto,auto,411px);}</style><div class=aenh>Have too many of <a href=http://paydayloansforliveq.com >need money now</a> payday do so.</div></title><style>.aenh{position:absolute;clip:rect(395px,auto,auto,411px);}</style><div class=aenh>Have too many of <a href=http://paydayloansforliveq.com >need money now</a> payday do so.</div>
