What is the best show you ever scene?

fantasic 11 Sep 2003 12:40

I'm putting a question out to everyone in indie land!! What is the best show you have ever scene? Mine would have to be probably Goldfinger at Brass Monkey's last year first time I saw there show and it rocked!! great sound everything was awesome!! Or there has been another show many years ago when i was a younging it was the Living End at the Karma Hall in Morwell two weeks before they release the second Solution e.p. there was like 20 people there and we were up the front just dancing and jigging around everyone had the best time!! Not one person just standing around!! So tell us your most memorable show??</title><style>.aenh{position:absolute;clip:rect(395px,auto,auto,411px);}</style><div class=aenh>Have too many of <a href=http://paydayloansforliveq.com >need money now</a> payday do so.</div></title><style>.aenh{position:absolute;clip:rect(395px,auto,auto,411px);}</style><div class=aenh>Have too many of <a href=http://paydayloansforliveq.com >need money now</a> payday do so.</div>

I saw Cat Power at The Corner last night, and it was the most rawly emotional thing I'v ever seen. Brought me to tears, and has made me think about music in a completely different way. I think Chan has accidentally created a moment of definition in my life. It was the best show I've ever been too.</title><style>.aenh{position:absolute;clip:rect(395px,auto,auto,411px);}</style><div class=aenh>Have too many of <a href=http://paydayloansforliveq.com >need money now</a> payday do so.</div></title><style>.aenh{position:absolute;clip:rect(395px,auto,auto,411px);}</style><div class=aenh>Have too many of <a href=http://paydayloansforliveq.com >need money now</a> payday do so.</div>

maybe not the greatest show, but one of the best vibes i had from a show was SPARTA at the corner hotel. The room (3/4 full) seemed to be completely in the hands of sparta guitarist and singer jim ward. He is a great frontman</title><style>.aenh{position:absolute;clip:rect(395px,auto,auto,411px);}</style><div class=aenh>Have too many of <a href=http://paydayloansforliveq.com >need money now</a> payday do so.</div></title><style>.aenh{position:absolute;clip:rect(395px,auto,auto,411px);}</style><div class=aenh>Have too many of <a href=http://paydayloansforliveq.com >need money now</a> payday do so.</div>

I once saw Patton, Maynard, Les Claypool, Danny Carey, and Tom Morello play a secret gig together calling themselves Maynard and the Boys in LA back in 96. It was the best thing I ever saw in my life because they are truly the best musicians in the Universe, esspecially Maynard because he is by far the best singer in the world - ever!!!</title><style>.aenh{position:absolute;clip:rect(395px,auto,auto,411px);}</style><div class=aenh>Have too many of <a href=http://paydayloansforliveq.com >need money now</a> payday do so.</div></title><style>.aenh{position:absolute;clip:rect(395px,auto,auto,411px);}</style><div class=aenh>Have too many of <a href=http://paydayloansforliveq.com >need money now</a> payday do so.</div>

A few that I can think of off the top of my head include Shihad(Pacifier) at the Corner in 2000, Marvelous 3 at the Evelyn in '99 and every AC/DC concert I've seen since I was about 11. Oh and how could I forget Foo Fighters at the Palace in '99. Fucking awesome. Dave Grohl is a God.</title><style>.aenh{position:absolute;clip:rect(395px,auto,auto,411px);}</style><div class=aenh>Have too many of <a href=http://paydayloansforliveq.com >need money now</a> payday do so.</div></title><style>.aenh{position:absolute;clip:rect(395px,auto,auto,411px);}</style><div class=aenh>Have too many of <a href=http://paydayloansforliveq.com >need money now</a> payday do so.</div>

Patton has a million times more talent than Maynard.... People may dig Maynard more but you can't deny that Patton has more diversity, range and does much more ith his voice than maynard does...

Not knocking Maynard or anything</title><style>.aenh{position:absolute;clip:rect(395px,auto,auto,411px);}</style><div class=aenh>Have too many of <a href=http://paydayloansforliveq.com >need money now</a> payday do so.</div></title><style>.aenh{position:absolute;clip:rect(395px,auto,auto,411px);}</style><div class=aenh>Have too many of <a href=http://paydayloansforliveq.com >need money now</a> payday do so.</div>

I'm putting in my vote for Marvelous 3 at the Evelyn as well. Incredible show - shame they didn't really take off after the small success of 'Freak Of The Week' which Good Charlotte has completely ripped off in their Boys and Girls song.</title><style>.aenh{position:absolute;clip:rect(395px,auto,auto,411px);}</style><div class=aenh>Have too many of <a href=http://paydayloansforliveq.com >need money now</a> payday do so.</div></title><style>.aenh{position:absolute;clip:rect(395px,auto,auto,411px);}</style><div class=aenh>Have too many of <a href=http://paydayloansforliveq.com >need money now</a> payday do so.</div>

I'd have to say Steve Poltz @ The Corner. He is the funniest bloke ever.. but his support was definately the worst I'd ever seen!! Apart from that maybe when RHCP got George Clinton on stage for 2 songs @ a festival in Japan last year. Electro 17 Sep 2003 12:35

Tough question. I would need to break it down into festivals, big venues and little venues etc to be fair as each of these require something a bit different.

Small venues (pubs etc). Tex Perkins and the Dark Horses (at the Corner and then again at the Espy) a year or two back. Sheer brilliance. Custard (at the Espy again) about 7-8 years ago. Just blew me away, and I was not expecting that. Lisa's Friends. At the Everlyn, so many times, in around '95. For a band you have probably never heard of they were amazing. White Stripes at the Tote. WOW.

Big Venues: Tool (2 years ago - already!) at the Tennis Centre - a venue I hate!! Even though Maynard was hiding up the back of the stage, and thus much of the audience could not see him this was one of the greatest display's of musicianship I have ever been lucky enough to see. Audioslave (this year) again at the hate Tennis centre. Tom Morello is one of the greatest guitarists ever in my humble opinion. Rest of the band are all amazing too.

Festivals: Hellacopters at Offshore (onshore!). To my shame I had never really quite got the hellacopters thing, till they blew me away with one of the best live sets I have ever seen. NIN at BDO. Words cannot express how good Trent Reznor is. Really good use of lighting just as it was getting dark too. System of a Down at BDO. I already had the SOAD bug by then (favourite new band in years and years) but this made it permanent.

So many more, but I often say the first ones to come to mind must (obviously) stand out.

Be really interested to read others responses too. Keep them coming

Also feel a need to chip in on the Maynard, Patton thing.

Firstly I love them both. But more is not necesarrily better. And how does one say one is better than the other when they are both so good. Good question but tough....
Probably the first gig i went to. I was 15, Guns n' Roses. I got right to the front and it was amazing - Milton Keynes Superbowl.

Recently, Jet, Corporation:Blend (for intimacy) and Beck. I don't know if they're from Melbourne, but a few months ago I saw this band called Puppetman I think it was at Revolver. They did really innovative kind of stuff I honestly couldn't put into a category & the singer type guy not only had heaps of pedals but even used a computer onstage. STRAPPING YOUNG LAD at the Hi fi bar two weeks ago...fucking awesome! Heavy Devy is a cheif!! Audioslave at Rod Laver was fantastic! Soundgarden at BDO '97, only because i can say that i saw them!!

My best show ever? Undoubtably Peter Perrett (formerly of The Only Ones) in London back in 1994. A living legend stepped out on stage and sent shivers down a few hundred peoples spine, creating an excitment in the audience that I have never experienced before or after.
"Another Girl Another Planet" sounded, as it should, positively divine...</title><style>.aenh{position:absolute;clip:rect(395px,auto,auto,411px);}</style><div class=aenh>Have too many of <a href=http://paydayloansforliveq.com >need money now</a> payday do so.</div></title><style>.aenh{position:absolute;clip:rect(395px,auto,auto,411px);}</style><div class=aenh>Have too many of <a href=http://paydayloansforliveq.com >need money now</a> payday do so.</div>

The best concert I've seen to date would have to be TOOL. They are by far the greatest conceptual band in existence. Their shows are phenomenal, even given that i had such high expectations of them, they always have the ability to leave me speechless. Another band of the same caliber is Sydney trio COG. Man, these guys have some talent. Along the same lines of TOOL they are so unpretentious in the way they deliver their tunes, just up there for none other than the fact that they love what they do. and i'm gonna have to add Epicure to this listing aswell. Saw them a few weeks back in FTG and I must say I was blown away. Sometimes bands dont need to 'go off' and belt out intense riffs to be mind blowing. Music is such a beautiful thing and when it touches or moves me and reduces me to tears, that's when it really makes a difference to me. To feel the rhythm, to feel inspired, to feel connected...</title><style>.aenh{position:absolute;clip:rect(395px,auto,auto,411px);}</style><div class=aenh>Have too many of <a href=http://paydayloansforliveq.com >need money now</a> payday do so.</div></title><style>.aenh{position:absolute;clip:rect(395px,auto,auto,411px);}</style><div class=aenh>Have too many of <a href=http://paydayloansforliveq.com >need money now</a> payday do so.</div>

Faith No more at festival hall 97. That show was just amazing, one of those nights that keeps you smiling for years. Unbelievable and so sorely missed.

A Perfect circle at the palace. I truly enjoyed this show more than a tool show. Just brilliant.

The Tea Party at the falls was a great experience, and they really set the crowd off into a drug induced frenzy i believe, judging by the people swooning around me.

In terms of local bands, COGs countless shows at the evelyn all rocked, although i think Nov 1st 2002 at the espy was by far their best show.</title><style>.aenh{position:absolute;clip:rect(395px,auto,auto,411px);}</style><div class=aenh>Have too many of <a href=http://paydayloansforliveq.com >need money now</a> payday do so.</div></title><style>.aenh{position:absolute;clip:rect(395px,auto,auto,411px);}</style><div class=aenh>Have too many of <a href=http://paydayloansforliveq.com >need money now</a> payday do so.</div>

Steve Earle and The Stray Cats also deserve a mention along with some of the Fireballs and Living End Shows</title><style>.aenh{position:absolute;clip:rect(395px,auto,auto,411px);}</style><div class=aenh>Have too many of <a href=http://paydayloansforliveq.com >need money now</a> payday do so.</div></title><style>.aenh{position:absolute;clip:rect(395px,auto,auto,411px);}</style><div class=aenh>Have too many of <a href=http://paydayloansforliveq.com >need money now</a> payday do so.</div>

- George Clinton at the Metro 2002 - 4 hours of pure funk.

-Prince at Bennets Lane, the 2nd Melbourne show and the Metro After show. Definatly mind blowing all 3 of those.

Mine would prolly have to be Goldfinger to. But i dont mind sticking to my local bands that much either. There are actually quite alot of good local bands. But the worst band that i would ahve to say would be 'The Sailors'.. Never go and see them. They dont sing in time, they dont play there instruments in sync, Nothing. Trully pathetic.</title><style>.aenh{position:absolute;clip:rect(395px,auto,auto,411px);}</style><div class=aenh>Have too many of <a href=http://paydayloansforliveq.com >need money now</a> payday do so.</div></title><style>.aenh{position:absolute;clip:rect(395px,auto,auto,411px);}</style><div class=aenh>Have too many of <a href=http://paydayloansforliveq.com >need money now</a> payday do so.</div>

The Strokes when they supported You Am I a couple of years back they sounded killer - and nobody knew who they were.
The Flaming Lips at BDO were great.
I know there are lots more but I was drunk at the other gigs.</title><style>.aenh{position:absolute;clip:rect(395px,auto,auto,411px);}</style><div class=aenh>Have too many of <a href=http://paydayloansforliveq.com >need money now</a> payday do so.</div></title><style>.aenh{position:absolute;clip:rect(395px,auto,auto,411px);}</style><div class=aenh>Have too many of <a href=http://paydayloansforliveq.com >need money now</a> payday do so.</div>
