Grease the machine

JuniorT 15 May 2003 21:41

C'mon Neil. It doesn't ALWAYS come down to the song. I remember reading a Juice article some years ago where the management and publicity teams of Crowded House, INXS, Savage Garden and Men At Work were interviewed. The one thing they all agreed on when it came to having a hit in America was that you need shitloads of money to grease the machine - no matter how good (or bad) the song is. Take a look at the Oz top 20. How many of these songs would be there without expensive marketing strategies, publicity and that dreaded</title><style>.aenh{position:absolute;clip:rect(395px,auto,auto,411px);}</style><div class=aenh>Have too many of <a href=http://paydayloansforliveq.com >need money now</a> payday do so.</div></title><style>.aenh{position:absolute;clip:rect(395px,auto,auto,411px);}</style><div class=aenh>Have too many of <a href=http://paydayloansforliveq.com >need money now</a> payday do so.</div>

Whilst the kmoney will get you listened to, no amount of airplay can make it successful. You need a good to great song in the first place. It's not just about celebrity.</title><style>.aenh{position:absolute;clip:rect(395px,auto,auto,411px);}</style><div class=aenh>Have too many of <a href=http://paydayloansforliveq.com >need money now</a> payday do so.</div></title><style>.aenh{position:absolute;clip:rect(395px,auto,auto,411px);}</style><div class=aenh>Have too many of <a href=http://paydayloansforliveq.com >need money now</a> payday do so.</div>

However, Australian music has changed and if you are a SMART indie you will look in the direction of The Waifs and John Butler Trio. It is possible to get to the top with a lot less money, but you need alot more energy. If you want to be the next best thing, have a hit and (maybe) make some cash then head to a major label. If you want a CAREER in music, then I say stick to indie, work hard and the road is yours. But I guess it comes down to the individual take on 'what is success'. Community Radio is there for everyone... if they don't play your music, get your own show and play it yourself. There's no one stopping you except yourself! Did you know RRR get better ratings than JJJ in Melbourne? Imagine FBI in Sydney... I can't wait to see what happens there! Wooo!</title><style>.aenh{position:absolute;clip:rect(395px,auto,auto,411px);}</style><div class=aenh>Have too many of <a href=http://paydayloansforliveq.com >need money now</a> payday do so.</div></title><style>.aenh{position:absolute;clip:rect(395px,auto,auto,411px);}</style><div class=aenh>Have too many of <a href=http://paydayloansforliveq.com >need money now</a> payday do so.</div>

The economics of Indie are far better than a Record Company. A record Company will get you promoted and possibly bigger crowds. It can be more short term. Indie is hard work and good management. If it is your life, then stay Indie until the work interferes with the playing. Getting a record deal is the START of the hard work.</title><style>.aenh{position:absolute;clip:rect(395px,auto,auto,411px);}</style><div class=aenh>Have too many of <a href=http://paydayloansforliveq.com >need money now</a> payday do so.</div></title><style>.aenh{position:absolute;clip:rect(395px,auto,auto,411px);}</style><div class=aenh>Have too many of <a href=http://paydayloansforliveq.com >need money now</a> payday do so.</div>

HEY EVERYONE there seems to be real confusion in the world of rock as to "How to make iT".Everyone knows that with the advent of the internet,cd burners,mp3 sites, web pages and anyother "doit yourself"kit that you dont really need shitloads of money because the more you spend the less you get .Record companies are notorious at lying to your face.Who here is an accountant, knows how much it costs to pay a band and the rest.If you spend a million of their money do you think they will want it back with interest before you even see a cent and then you might even end up owing much more.ENJOY the fact that yove chosen to play music and record, perform and remember, ive been doing this for 22years and i still get a kick out of it.Doit yourself.</title><style>.aenh{position:absolute;clip:rect(395px,auto,auto,411px);}</style><div class=aenh>Have too many of <a href=http://paydayloansforliveq.com >need money now</a> payday do so.</div></title><style>.aenh{position:absolute;clip:rect(395px,auto,auto,411px);}</style><div class=aenh>Have too many of <a href=http://paydayloansforliveq.com >need money now</a> payday do so.</div>

My original comment (albeit a tad cynical. Sorry) was directed at the rather naive notion that talent will "always" be recognised or rewarded. Hey, wouldn't that be nice! But then again, what is "talent"? What is "good"? What is "cool"? Who decides?</title><style>.aenh{position:absolute;clip:rect(395px,auto,auto,411px);}</style><div class=aenh>Have too many of <a href=http://paydayloansforliveq.com >need money now</a> payday do so.</div></title><style>.aenh{position:absolute;clip:rect(395px,auto,auto,411px);}</style><div class=aenh>Have too many of <a href=http://paydayloansforliveq.com >need money now</a> payday do so.</div>
